With our special tie-up with Republic Polytechnic, SIAA has a group of student members from the Engineering school. The plant tour above was organised by SIAA for the student members to gain an insight to the automation operations at Yokogawa Singapore. The tour led by Mr Chua Seng Kian, GM - Head, Manufacturing Centre of Yokogawa Electric Asia Pte Ltd was indeed a great experience for all attendees

In line with our promotion of M2M, SIAA supported the above event which was held on 22nd Mar 2006 from 9:00am to 12:30 pm and 2:00pm to 5:30pm.
SIAA's objective was to share with the industry how we can assist M2M players

The SRO-JN is within the premises of the Jining Bureau of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (JBFTEC), 5 Xianying Road, Jining, Shandong Province, China. SIAA has also appointed JBFTEC as its strategic partner.

 Regional Industrial Networking Conference (RINC)

The 2nd M2M Asia Forum 2005 was held on Wed 12 Oct 05 @ Suntec Singapore with great success. International speakers were present at the forum to deliver useful and beneficial M2M applications and technologies in today's businesses.

The M2M Forum speakers has reinforced the growth , potential and opportunities of M2M in the world and in Asia. SIAA has been propagating the use of infocomm in industries for the past three years and it was very assuring to know that M2M is the right direction for companies to adopt in order to stay competitive.

Organized jointly by, Building & Construction Authority , S'pore and Singapore Industrial Automation Association, the BCA-SIAA BAUCON Asia 2005 Conference took place sucessfully with more than 100 attending the 2-day conference.
Mr Erwin Chan, Deputy Director, Mobility Development, IDA explained the link between M2M and the construction industries. He also mentioned in his Keynote Sppech how M2M could help in the modern business functions etc.
The Conference has met its overall objectives as the exchanges between speakers and audience were aplenty. We'd like to take this opportunity to also thank all Conference participants for making time to attend this conference!

The China Shandong Province Jining City Business Investment Symposium was successfully held on 14th September 2005 @ Penisula Excelsior Hotel.

The symposium kicked start with an Opening Speech by Mr Alex Tan, President of SIAA followed by a Keynote Speech by Mr Zeng Fang, Vice Director of Jining Bureau Foreign Trade & Economic Cooperation. The speakers gave detailed insights to business & investment procedures in Jining.
The Q & A session was very interactive with exchanges on issues relating to manpower, profit withdrawals, business laws and legislations etc. in Jining. The speakers were definitely well-equipped with information to answer questions which included quoting scenarios on past experiences.

Paticipants also networked at lunch which was provided at the end of the symposium.

@ Suntec International Convention & Exhibition Centre 

SIAA is an advocator of M2M (machine to machine) phenomenon, a business enabler that increases productivity in industries. We participated in the 9th INFOCOMM Commerce Conference with emphasis on M2M. It was a fruitful exhibition with many enquiries pouring in.
The Council and Secretariat would like to thank the many delegates for visiting our booth at the show.

On 17th Aug 2005, a group of engineering students from Republic Polytechnic visited Opto-Pharm Pte Ltd for a factory tour organised by SIAA.
Both the staff and students present in that group found the tour very educational and well-rounded.
SIAA would like to also take this oopportunity to thank the Management & Staff of Opto-Pharm for the great hospitality during the visit.

SIAA co-organised a networking nite with SITF for members of both societies to mingle and explore new business opportunities. Corporate members were given a platform to share with the crowd about the products and services offered by their respective companies. The event was held with great success and members feedbacked that the venue and atmosphere was extremely cosy for discussions. SIAA and SITF plan to work together more often to hold such events.

We are pleased to have sucessfully organised an Industry Talk on Telematics for the RP Engineering Students. The talk attracted some 70 students who stayed attentive throughout and also responded swiftly to questions prompted by Titus at the Q & A session. Prizes were also given away for correct answers to his questions. Overall, the students benefitted from the Industry talk by delivered by the Telematics expert, Mr Titus Chia who is also the GM of Geo Millenium System Pte Ltd.

The SIAA Strategic Meeting was held on 2nd July 2005 at SIAA Centre. An annual event for SIAA Council to strategize and affirm the direction of the association, many issues were discussed.
SIAA is now focusing its efforts to build more business platforms overseas for SIAA members.
Henceforth, the activities of the committees are aligned to regionalisation of SIAA.

SIAA as pleased to support a one (1) day Autodesk seminar on 24 June 05 at the Raffles City Convention Centre. The response was great with more than 200 participants visiting our booth.

At the CommunicAsia 2005 which lasted for 4 days from 14th-17th Jun 2005, SIAA was given a platform in kind by I2R to promote its M2M initiative. To co-promote IPv6, SIAA invited our telematics veteran, Geo Milenium System to showcase their In-vehicle infotainment system.

Addressing a one-day seminar on investment in the central Indian state on 26th May 2005 at Raffles City Convention Centre, Mr Gaur highlighted several investment opportunities for Singapore businesses in resource-rich Madhya Pradesh, especially covering minerals, agri & food processing, pharmaceuticals, herbal, bio-technology, gems & jewelry, handlooms, power looms, texitle, tourism, automobile, education, IT and infrastructure.
Mr Gaur said he was impressed by the development of Singapore over the past four decades, which should be used as a role model to develop Madhya Pradesh.
In his welcoming address at the seminar, the Indian High Commissioner to
Singapore, Mr Alok Prasad, highlighted growing bilateral ties between India and Singapore and the importance of Indian states wooing foreign investment, including from Singapore-based businesses.
Mr Prasad noted that bilateral trade between India and Singapore had grown by a
hefty 40 percent in the January-April period of this year.

Realizing the Ipv6 Application in M2M at SIAA Centre

The advent of (machine to machine) M2M technology has enhance the importance of Internet Protocol (IP) version 6 in industries. Not only does IPv6 provide more addresses, it has been designed to overcome the limitations faced by IPv4 as well as provide new features to facilitate the use of Internet. These include enhanced security, support for mobile users, traffic differentiation for better quality of service, and plug-and-play capabilities.

We are pleased to announce that SIAA (thru eSIAA Pte Ltd) has sined a co-operation agreement with DN Ventures Pte Ltd, a consultancy company based in Singapore with offices in Germany.
The objective of this co-operation is that DN Venture through its German office will assist SIAA to bring German and European small and medium sized companies to invest in our SIAA China Business Platform in Zhongshan, China. Industry Talk - Instrumentation & Test Measurement @ Republic Polytechnic

SIAA organised the first Industry Talk in 2005 @ RP on 2nd Feb 2005. Mr Dave Appleton of Calistra Research Labs Pte Ltd was the invited speaker for the event. He shared with students not just on the technical topic of Instrumentation & Test Measurement but also the the strategies to apply engineering skills in favour of the career advancements and opportunities. About 80 students attended the talk @ the Annexe Hall @RP.

The M2M committee believes the year 2005 to be an exciting one as we roll out our M2M activities and programs. To kick off the M2M momentum for the year , SIAA organised a seminar themed "The Challenges & Impact of Network in the M2M Sphere" which drew in more than 50 participants in the SIAA Centre. We were honoured to have Mr Richard Chua, of Worldlink Innovation Pte Ltd and Mr Jonathan Yeo of Cisco Systems Singapore to give us an overview of the challenges of networks and its impact in the M2M sphere.

Following the seminar, M2M leaders gathered for a meeting led by Dr Tan Guan Hong , the M2M Chairperson to discuss an M2M business model that will be used to drive the M2M initiative.

I²T provides backend enabling tools that may create more M2M aplications.
M2M is not new but already known for some time and now the time for implementations in industry due to a straong IT/Comm infrastructure. Most participants agree that I²T is still at its infancy stage and awareness is the main issue. NanoScience and NanoTechnology are fast becoming technology frontiers for automation. Recognising this, SIAA arranged with Assoc Prof Bran Ngoi of NTU to visit the laboratory and give SIAA members an insight of NanoTechnology and how it can apply to their business. About 20 members turned up at the tour and was impressed by the wonders NanoTechnology can do.

SIAA is pleased to announce the cooperation agreement between SIAA and DreamHub Consultancy Services on 2 November 2004 in Singapore. DreamHub is a consultancy firm in international business and educational services that specializes in providing effective strategic marketing solutions and trainings for small and medium enterprises. DreamHub is also the coordinating agent for several agencies in Jining including the Jining Machinery & Electronics Industry Office (MEIO)

The cooperation agreement entails that SIAA and DreamHub jointly promote trade relations between enterprises in Singapore and Jining. There will be a trade delegation from MEIO to Singapore sometime end of the year.

SIAA and DreamHub believe that this cooperation will provide a much needed bridge between SIAA members and the Jining enterprises, thereby contributing to the mutual benefit of Singapore and Jining enterprises. At the same time, offering SIAA members and their staff with another source of opportunity to upgrade their market competitiveness.

The Equipment Consortium launched on 20 October 2004 works closely with the industry to address critical issues and harness emerging technologies in precision equipment design, simulation and manufacturing. Eleven local enterprises from the equipment manufacturing sector have joined the consortium.
A project on micro/nano dispensing is being planned. This project focuses on micro actuation, dispensing processes, as well as precision measurements and control. Although the equipment is targeted mainly at users in the electronics and precision engineering clusters, it can be easily extended to applications in the bio-manufacturing sector.
The consortium draws on the collective expertise from the A*STAR research institutes;

SIMTech (Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology) ,
IHPC(Institute of High Performance Computing) and
DSI (Data Storage Institute).
The consortium is supported by Singapore Industrial Automation Association.

The 3rd Regional Industrial Networking Conference gathered more than 300 industry people at the Singapore Polytechnic on Friday 9 Sept 2004.

MOU Signing Ceremony SIAA China Office

SIAA has entered into a trilateral cooperative agreement with the Economic & Trade Office in Zhongshan Torch Development Zone (ZTDZ) and Sen Ee Consultation (S) Pte Ltd on 27 May 2004 in Zhongshan, China. ZTDZ is the local trade office that oversees trade investment into Zhongshan and they are responsible for the growth of the national Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone of Zhongshan of which the ACEsTech Exhibition Hall is located.

The nature of cooperation includes the following:

•  ZTDZ through its efforts will help SIAA and its members to establish network with other China Hi-tech Development Zones in other parts of China.
• SIAA will reciprocate by actively promoting the China (Zhongshan) International Electronics and IT Fair" and will assist to connect Singapore companies to exhibit at ACEsTech Exhibition Hall.
• SIAA together with Sen Ee will periodically organise trade and investment mission for Singapore companies to Zhongshan and other hi-tech parks in China.
