Singapore Industrial Automation Association The Singapore Industrial Automation Association has been the vanguard of the automation movement since 1982, actively involved in promoting applications of industrial automation to enhance the competitiveness of Singapore businesses and products. It strives to be an excellent industry association linking vendors with end-users, Government bodies and Applied Research Institutes supported on three pillars of core service in the Area of Business, Information and Technology. Singapore’s Industrial Automation Industry is blessed with a strong entrepreneurial base, a highly skilled and cost-competitive workforce and with world-class capabilities in business management, technology, and innovation. The members of SIAA have a proven track record in technology innovation studies and educational accreditation. As part of Singapore Economic Development Board’s National Automation Master Plan, SIAA has also been identified as the vanguard of the automation industry, tasked to promote the development and application of automation business locally and overseas. SIAA is the advocator of M2M (machine to machine) initiative, which increases productivity in industries through the application of M2M and Automation technologies.

6th May 2009. On behalf of Singapore Industrial Automation Association, Mr Y. K. Poh presented to Republic polytechnic students and staff about local M2M industry that is still in infancy.
Mr Poh gave a detailed explanation of the fundamentals of M2M. He also briefed on the business as well as application aspects of M2M both locally and in the region. Several examples were sited. Highlights were on the emerging verticals sectors and the potential that M2M technologies/applications that would be required by industries in the near future.
Mr Poh conjured students’ interests in M2M. He helped students understand the potential of unlimited business opportunities and explained some strategies to position Singapore as a leading technology hub for several verticals.

SIAA had a dialogue with IE Singapore (Electronics & Precision Engineering Division) on 4 March 2009; the discussion focused on; - M2M (Machine to Machine) industry development
- The move from Hard Automation/Traditional Automation vs Soft Automation (Present and Future)
- M2M based applications and opportunities to industry verticals pertaining to Singapore’s demography, infrastructure and micro and macro-environment
- M2M as a unification technology that runs across several industry verticals
- Local Enterprise Association Development (LEAD) program to focus mainly on Branding of M2M, Education and Training (Learning and Training model), Job creation for the local industry
- Leading the effort to create awareness for M2M and probably to eventually be able to set the standards

SIAA and Singapore Polytechnic
SIAA and Singapore Polytechnic School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering are in collaboration to foster creativity, innovation, productivity and the spirit of invention in the local engineering scene. We plan to utilize student concepts to design ‘functional systems’ for local enterprises.
The objective is to utilize the latest wireless technologies to integrate systems that fulfill local SME’s needs/future requirements and improve process. Alternatively, students may be tasked to build and configure prototypes that are requested by SMEs. Design, Building and prototyping services will be provided to local enterprises free of charge. Local enterprises may also use this opportunity as recruitment ground for outstanding students.
SIAA is gathering a consort of interested local enterprises to assign projects to students based on individual company’s needs and requirements. This information will be strictly confidential and will not be revealed to external parties. Concepts, ideas and requirements from local enterprises will be greatly appreciated. SIAA cordially invites local SMEs to participate in the initial public presentation.
The presentation of the Project is scheduled on 9 Dec 2008. 3 - 5pm, Singapore Polytechnic. It will be held at LT12A (next to the MRT Station).

INDUSTRY-ACAD DISTINCTION PANEL for viewing projects for SEEE-SP.
SPINNOVEX 2009 which exhibits our final year student projects is planned from 8 to 10 January 2009. We are pleased to invite you to be a member of the Industry-Acad project distinction panel to evaluate our student projects for award of distinction. This has been the practice for the past few years. Interaction with the panel members has been valuable for the students, supervisors and management.
The evaluation will take place on 7th January 2009 (Wednesday).

Singapore Industrial Automation Association presents Guest Lecturers for Master of Science in Engineering Business Management (EBM) conducted by the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), University of Warwick. (For the module of: Automation & Robotics) held on 21st June at SIM university. Module Content is as follows. Vietnam Telecomp - Electronics 2006, the largest telecom and ICT show in Vietnam closed with resounding success on September 16, 2006 at HoChiMinh City International Exhibition and Convention Centre, Vietnam. A total of 18,208 trade visitors flocked to this show to experience the latest telecom solutions and technology. Overall, we gathered positive response form all participants in the Singapore Pavilion.

Automation 2008 is a bi-annual event that brings together the technology people of all over the world to gather at India. Response at the show was overwhelming. Both quality and quantity of visitors were high. Overall response from exhibitors in the Singapore Pavilion was positive. Some received good orders among others who got lots of potential business contacts and opportunities. Many organisations have set up rep offices in India via Automation 2006 exhibition.
